On Sunday we went to Horsham, and met up with Sue and John and Valerie. It was a beautiful sunny day, and we walked up the street to eat at the Beefeater before we went to the show. It was very busy, so we all opted for soup, which we only just had time to eat, and then left the men to carry on whilst we went to the show.
In the foyer was Vera , Mick and Robbie, lovely to see them, and Sharon and Caitlin. We all hugged each other and had a chat, and then it was time to go in. Our seats were front row, Gareth was within a few feet, how lovely that was!
First came Nick the support act, we recognised him from Maidstone, and then after that they did a 15 minute interval. All the women virtually trooped off to the loo, including us, I was pleased to see the audience were all ages, and the atmosphere was highly charged with great excitement.
Pete came on first tuning up his guitar, and when Gareth came on, without anyone to introduce him, it didn't matter. The cheers and screams went on for ages, he was trying to say "hello Horsham," with a big grin on his face, but the audience were ecstatic to see him, it was amazing!
It was not a big crowd, but it didn't matter, as usual Gareth had the audience won over and with him, encouraging us all to join in the songs, wave our arms, and get up and dance. I looked around me at the sea of happy faces, realising he had done his work so well, they all loved him to bits as we do!
The new songs are lovely, he sang 6, and my personal favourite is,If this isn't love, what is?" they are emotional, beautiful and sung straight from his heart, and he captured the hearts of all when he said he dedicated this song to all the ladies " More than Words." Not one of his songs of course!
During SITS he asked for volunteers to go up on the stage, and I was so proud of Valerie, who belongs to a drama group, and is used to performing , when she went up and sang a verse with him. I wish I had her courage! I am sure she will treasure that moment, Valerie is so vivacious, and they made a great couple for that brief few seconds.
At the end they came back on for one last song, and Gareth asked Pete which one, then us,Sue and I kept calling out" Don't stop me now," but he couldn't hear, then suddenly it went quiet, so I yelled out again, and this time he heard me and said " Good choice." so they gave a rousing rendition of it to finish off.
Gareth had told Vera he was coming out after, so we followed all the others to the back door, but it was very dark, so we went to another door and then the front door. Some of the staff were going home and they said he would not be coming out, but we didn't believe a word of it cos he had promised Vera, and then on the way back we spotted Pete. Sue and I had quite a chat with him, very interesting stuff he said, and I remarked that it had been a small crowd but a happy ne, and he said they didn't care if it was only a few, they would still make it a party, and they had certainly done that! We told him how much we had enjoyed it, he was so nice friendly and polite, and he also remarked it was a pleasure to work with Gareth, he was so talented, and had such a beautiful voice. He's not wrong there!
Gareth was having a shower, and then meeting someone, but he still came out and spent his time with us, he is so lovely and caring and so uplifting! He also met quite a few new fans cos they waited.
I want to thank my lovely Keith, for not only taking me there and doing all the driving, but also for taking all the photos of us girls, and having a laugh with us and Gareth at a time when everyone is stressed and wanting to get to see Gareth and have their turn. He made the whole experience a very happy one for us girls, I am always nervous at the stage door and he knows that. I am posting my pic and Valerie's here, but Sue may well want to post her own one.
My blog will follow later .
