Sorry this report is a bit late, still catching up on the computer after being away.
On Sunday I went by coach, taking the car was not an option in London, and if you can book online you get what they call a fun price, well it is fun, it's only £5 each way, which is great.
I met June, then armed with a map, we tried to find our hotel. Well we did find it, but I think we went the long way round cos a 13 minute walk turned into half an hour, but it was all good fun. We had a cup of tea and got changed, then went back to meet up with Ann and Peter, and Vera, Mick, and Robbie.
We went to eat in Wetherspoons, but didn't yet see Ann and Peter. We took Vera to her seat, cos Mick and Robbie were not seeing the show, and went back to her at the interval, and then we saw Ann and Peter, and were able to have a good natter before the second part of show. Somebody came over to say hello to me, and I realised it was Doris, which was nice, she asked how I was, and I said fine, and I hoped she was too.
The Apollo is a big theatre, and it was very crowded. We were sat next to Vivienne, who is a professional photographer, and her lovely mum Pearl. We had a very interesting chat.
The orchestra were absolutely beautiful, I would describe the gospel choir as powerful. John Owen Jones was very witty, Gareth was his guest, and it goes without saying that he was show stopping as usual. I will give more details in my blog. It would have been nicer if Gareth had more songs to sing, only 3 solos, but he did sing with the company, and at the end they did a medley of Christmas songs.
I won't put this in my blog, but also disappointed that Christopher Biggins gave John a huge buildup before he came on, but when Gareth came on, Louise introduced him by saying, " he is very talented." but no mention of all the things he has done, and we all know how versatile Gareth is, and all his musical theatre roles were sadly not mentioned.
After the show we went to the stage door, and were at the back until lovely Peter called us over, he had saved our places. There was a barrier, not surprising as it was a huge crowd. I thought they might not all be for Gareth, but it seemed later, that they were. Gareth came out quickly, he was going out and in a hurry, but he still gave us his time. I lined up with everyone else, I wasn't worried about a photo, hadn't brought my camera, just wanted him to sign something special. which he did,and Peter and Mick gave me a lovely surprise when they said" A photo Carol?"
I said " if Gareth has time." I didn't want to hog him longer than anyone else. Well being Gareth he said it was fine, and put his arm round, me, that cuddle is always so special isn't it. We are so lucky to have Gareth in our lives, he is so uplifting!
We then moved away, and he was gone in a taxi, so we went to Wetherspoons to have a drink and a chat about our day. After we walked back to the coach station with Vera's party, saw them on their coach, then got back to our hotel about 1.30pm.
The next morning we had breakfast and made our way home. June thanks for giving me such a laugh and being such a support to me, Vera , Mick and Robbie, you were such great company, and Ann and Peter, so glad we got to have a drink together after the show. Until the next time when we all get together, take care, and let's hope it won't be too long away.
I will write my usual blog about the show, and post up any pics later.
