TAKE ONE Tuesday Evening
My wonderful son Ben took me to see Gareth in panto this year and what a fantastic time we had. We left home about 8.30 Tuesday morning and got to St Albans around 1.30, we met Vera, Mick & Robbie and also Vera’s son Ken and his wife and two daughters. We all met in Whetherspoons for lunch and then Ben and I went to book in our hotel and get ready. We met everyone back in Whetherspoons for a drink before the show.
Ben and I were front row but a bit to the left. The panto was great fun, I loved Gareth playing the more regal Prince Charming he looked very handsome in his soft gold costume. And the posh accent suited him. Gareth sung three songs where he was or ended up alone on the stage with just the spotlight and he looked and sounded amazing.
The other characters were brilliant too … One of the ugly sisters took a shine to Vera’s son Ken and kept referring to him throughout the show.
After the show we headed for the stage door there were only the nine of us there , Gareth eventually came out and said hiya to everyone and we all just stood there waiting for someone to go up first, I then said to Vera, you go first. We were having problems with autograph pens Vera’s didn’t work properly so I gave Gareth mine to use , I had two programmes as Ben wanted one signed for his girlfriend in Ireland but when it was my turn my pen wouldn’t work properly either, (I think it must have been something on the programmes) I told Gareth I’d leave mine if he could just sign one for Kim but he said no I’ll sign yours too. We all had photos and then Gareth left. We headed back to Whether spoons for a drink and something to eat, when we arrived Gareth was across the room at the bar. Earlier when we were there they had put several tables together so the nine of us could sit together this table was now taken up with cast members. We sat at the other end of the pub so we wouldn’t intrude on Gareth’s personal time. After a while Gareth got up and as he headed for the door he turned to us and waved and blew a kiss to us all, he then stopped to talk to someone and then waved again before leaving.
After a while Vera’s son Ken and his family headed home and then Vera Mick and Robbie had to go too.
TAKE TWO Wednesday Morning
The next morning after breakfast we headed back to Wetherspoons to meet Vera Mick and Robbie for cuppa before our second show.
This time Ben and I were sat front row a bit too the right, Vera Mick and Robbie were the sane seats as us + 1 but fourth row, Ben asked Vera if she would like his front seat and he would sit with Mick and Robbie and she was thrilled.
I enjoyed the show more the second time, as I had already got the gist of what was happening after the first show so it was easier for me to follow , but second time it seemed to go quicker, Gareth songs were so beautiful and very emotional for me. All too soon it was all over, we headed for the stage door to see Gareth one last time and to wish him a Happy Christmas, there was only us there and in minutes Gareth came rushing out he was in a hurry, so it was very quick but so lovely to see him and say Goodbye and wish him a Merry Christmas, he said a few words and thanked us for coming, then he lent over and put his cheek to my face for a kiss, bless him and then he rushed off. On cloud nine we went for a cuppa and some lunch before Ben and I headed home
