Well what a fabulous evening, I have not come down to earth yet! haven't even got the pictures to post, but they will follow later, and in the meantime, I will share our amazing day with you.
Sunday was a beautiful day, it was as hot as summer. Sue and John arrived at midday, and we had a coffee and a chat, and then went to our local pub as we had a table booked for Sunday lunch. I have never seen it so busy, the car park was full, and all the tables outside were taken up, we managed to get a parking spot in the field. I think everyone was enjoying these mellow days, the very last part of summer.
We had a lovely roast dinner, thank you so much Sue and John, it was a very kind gesture, we are always pleased to take you with us, as you know. Then we came back to get ready, and before we knew it, was time to go.
The journey was ok, and we found a car park near to the theatre, so went inside. We saw Sharon and Caitlin, and had a chat, was great to see Sharon looking well, and to hear all their news. After a while we were called downstairs into a room, we had vip tickets, and there was champagne and nibbles, which sadly because of our lovely dinner, I could not do justice to.
Ann and Peter arrived, so we all sat at a big table at the front, and then Rach, Megan and Kate came over to say hello. Rach is a facebook friend, and I have seen photos of the girls and am friends with them all, but never met them before. What a lovely family they are, we had a long chat, and I was so pleased to finally meet them all.
The show started off very well with Jai. I liked his strong and powerful voice, the songs he sang, and his easygoing manner, a thoroughly nice lad, but sadly I could not understand his dialect, so most of what he said went over my head. The girl group were only on briefly, they were not really my scene.
Then Pete came on to tune up, and we knew this was the moment we had been waiting for. Gareth just walked on and said "hello Gravesend," no big buildup, which he certainly deserves, but he was just there, and ready to sing to us. It all started off nicely, Sunshine was the first song, and then some more of his classics, but as always, the rock god in Gareth was struggling to come out and be unleashed, and when it did WOW!
Everybody at the front sprang from their seats and went to the stage. We were at an advantage as our seats were at the end of the middle block, so Sue and I were up there in the blink of an eyelid. Gareth was amazing, he sang all the rock classics that he loves, and we love, he went up and down , there was a sea of hands uplifted for him to grasp, ours included, and he did not disappoint, everyone was gripped. Cameras and videos were whirring, he was dancing round the stage, interacting with Pete as he does, and then the rest of the band came on and he interacted with them as well.
The audience were great, lots of younger fans too, which is so pleasing to see. When he got to Spirit in the Sky, he invited people up to sing, and it was clear to see, one of the girls that came up was so overcome to see him, she had her arms round his waist hugging him, and forgot about the singing, bless her.
Gareth sang for 90 minutes, but to me it seemed such a short time. Finally he went after throwing his towel into the delighted crowd. The crowd started to surge out, we could not go anywhere, so we waited, and eventually were some of the last to exit the theatre. When I saw the long queue waiting to see him my heart sank. My Keith is lovely and supports me always when I see Gareth, but we had left Leo too, and it was going to be over an hour at least to wait. Was it fair to be this long?
Suddenly like magic, a man appeared, and said. " I expect you would like to be at the front wouldn't you?" I laughed, thinking it was a joke, but no, the lady came too, we grabbed Ann and Peter, who were just behind, and we were led to the FRONT of the queue. I was gobsmacked, never has that happened to me before, I am always the one who is too shy to push forward, and I usually see him last. I can only assume it was because we had VIP tickets that we had this special treatment, it was lovely, that is what it must be like when you fly first class.
There were fans in wheelchairs, I always love to see the happiness on their faces when they are with Gareth, what a tonic he is to us all! Then came us. Sue and Ann went up, and then it was my turn. I had not seen him since last Christmas, so it felt great to have a quick hug, and a picture. I just had time to tell him how great he had been, I never keep him chatting, it's not fair on others, and my goodness I have never seen so many fans all in one place, it was fantastic.
We squeezed Ann and Peter into the car, and dropped them off at their hotel. I kept looking out for Rach, Kate and Megan, also Sharon and Caitlin, as they also had VIP tickets, but we never saw them again, so I just hope they all got their turn with Gareth, and didn't have to wait too long.
We finally headed for home after an amazing evening. I want to thank my lovely Keith for driving us there and back, he loved the rock part of the gig I know, bless him xx I will write a proper blog when I get a few minutes spare, as I am busy with my own promotion right now, and I will also post the pictures.
