Gareth Gates, Live and Unplugged

It was a very intimate night at the Riverfront Theatre tonight as Gareth Gates brought his acoustic tour Live and Unplugged to Newport.
The evening consisted of Gareth singing and his guitar playing/song writing partner Pete Rinaldi on guitar and backing vocals. From the first few songs it was easy to see that this was going to be a good night with Gareth belting songs like Can’t Believe it’s Over from his second album Pictures Of The Other Side. This was quickly followed by a couple of songs Gareth and Pete had written together called Free and Do or Die which I really enjoyed (looking forward to that acoustic album boys!). Everyone seemed to be enjoying the rapport that Gareth and Pete had built with the audience which got everyone singing along with Anyone Of Us (Stupid Mistake). The first half ended with Gareth’s version of Suspicious Minds.
I found the first half the perfect antidote to a stressful week as by the interval I was really relaxed and having a good time.
The second half opened quite differently to the first half with Guns N' Roses’ Sweet Child of Mine and this set the more lively tone for the rest of the evening. After 2 more self penned songs they ended the show with a great sing-along finale which got the audience up on their feet clapping and singing along. Some of the classics included were More than Words, Summer of 69, Sex on Fire and Living on a Prayer. They ended the show with Spirit in the Sky where Gareth invited members of the audience to sing-along with him.
. .
The very enjoyable evening ended up being different to what I was expecting to see so thank you Gareth and Pete for a wonderful evening.
