Yesterday we went to Wimbledon, the first part of the journey was ok, then we came off the motorway, and it took another hour to get through the London traffic to Wimbledon. When we arrived we parked up and went into Wetherspoons to meet up with Vera, Mick and Robbie.
The heat was intense about 32 degrees I believe, and it was a bit cooler in there luckily. I am not good in that sort of heat, and it wasn't surprising that very few people waited at the stage door, and certainly not us in that heat.
Valerie arrived at 7, was so lovely to see her, the last time we met for a Gareth show was Legally Blonde last year. When we went in the theatre I couldn't believe how hot it was, didn't seem to have air cond, everyone was using their programmes as a fan. Our seats in the second row were good, right in the middle, although I found some flashing lights shining in my eyes a bit disturbing at times.
We went out for a drink at the interval, and the man at the bar kindly gave us some iced water. He joked with us. " Is that heat caused by Gareth Gates?" and we said." Well partly!" How did he know? LOL
When we went back in there was a lady sitting on the steps, it was all to much for her, she said she had come by coach, and that wasn't air conditioned either.
I don't want to spoil the show for anyone yet to go, so will just say it was truly amazing. I will write my blog later. Last year a very high standard was set, but this year was even better. My only complaint is it was far too hot, all the men wore suits, and I could see beads of perspiration on their faces. Gareth had a little hand fan.
Afterwards we filed out to the stage door, they had put up a barrier, which after the mass of people last year was not surprising. I didn't know if I would be lucky enough to get to meet Gareth , cos I am just not pushy enough, but just seeing him at the door would be amazing!
I spotted a lady I know from facebook, her companion had left her to go and speak to someone else, and she looked lonely, so I said hello to her. Then Keith arrived and also spoke to her, and knowing it was her birthday last week, I leaned over and asked her if she had enjoyed it.
Suddenly to my amazement, her companion appeared and thrust her body between us, and shouted at me " Don't talk to my friend." I was absolutely mortified, we are all Gareth fans waiting to see him, why on earth was she behaving like that?
But there was worse to come. Keith was standing next to her companion, and she tried to make her come past him and stand with her. Her friend said. " No, I am ok here." which enraged her even more, so she marched round the other side of her and dragged her down the road.
I couldn't believe what I had just witnessed, Keith hadn't heard her go off at me, he only saw her drag her friend, but when I explained it after, he said it won't ever happen again, because next time she will have him to deal with. I don't want any arguments, I just wanted to have a peaceful evening seeing Gareth, so can only assume that this person must have been suffering from heatstroke.
Within about 5 minutes after that Gareth appeared, he spotted Vera and went straight up to her. Then he moved down the other way, and Valerie and I waited hopefully. People rushed down the other end, but we were hemmed in anyway, then after a while his minder said, " That is enough." But Gareth spotted Keith, and then came over to me. his hug was even more special than usual, I was still upset from being shouted at, he signed my programme then he posed with me, and said something really nice which made me laugh. Then we managed to get Valerie in for her turn, bless her, she doesn't get to go as often as us.
Apparently my pic wasn't good the flash hadn't worked, will post it anyway for a laugh, but Keith asked Gareth just as he was going if he would pose with Carol again. I had no idea, completely taken by surprise, but out came Gareth's arms again, and he said " No worries." I thanked him again, and he said it was always lovely to see me.
We then all headed home, I am very tired today, but can thoroughly recommend the show to all of you, it was amazing!
