Having conquered her fear of speaking in public, Mrs Crompton is now in training to become a fully qualified coach.
She said: "I was fluent when I was two, but then at three I began to stammer. My mum went into hospital and although experts aren't exactly sure what causes it, they say it can be triggered by trauma.
"I joined The McGuire Programme in November 2007 and by July 2008 I felt completely different. The great thing about the people on the programme is that we understand, from personal experience, the difficulties of dealing with a stammer. We recognise that effort is needed to change lifelong habits of speech. It's not easy, but it is do-able."
Gareth Gates, a supporter of the programme, has met Mrs Crompton on many occasions.
"He's a lovely guy," Mrs Crompton said. "We have presented together on a number of occasions."
An open day is being held in Headcorn on Saturday, kicking off at 2pm. Members of the public are welcome, for free. The event is being held at Headcorn Village Hall, in Church Lane.
