Hi folks
I have been browsing about the net today just to see really what the crack is about this latest news. Mostly I can see that people are very happy but some appear a bit worried for Gareth as these programmes can work very well for an artist but also if the edit is not so good they can work rather in the other direction. There are a lot of folks out there saying "Don't do it Gareth"
I can see it both ways if I am honest. However I think that as Gareth enters his 30th year, God knows where all that time has got too, then he has to take some risks. He is doing quite OK he has had some rather good gigs and some rather good parts in Musical Theatre BUT who knows that apart from all of us? Answer probably very few!
Sometimes the only way to get yourself "out there" is to take a huge step and a bit of a risk. This re-union is bold and there people in it that were not as successful as Gareth in the first place and certainly not even as he is now. This could be seen as a jump start for their careers, but for Gareth could it open doors that have so far remained firmly locked since the early days? As long as he is frank and honest and ITV are true to that I think he can turn this to his advantage. When was the last time anyone, including us, saw Gareth as Gareth? Pop Idol? I bet it is! we got a little in the Documentary he made a few years back! Too long ago! We have grown, matured and lived a little so has he, who knows that? We do? Are we enough? No we aren't!
We know this man and we know what he is capable of. It's time now for everyone else to learn and appreciate this cracking chap, this huge talent, and come to know what we have always known.
I really can't see Gareth's management taking this on lightly and Gareth wouldn't do it if he didn't think it could work. There can't be any ties and once its over he will be able to go on as the Solo Artist we all know and love.
We will be right here , with door wide open with a warm welcome to all that is Gareth everyone is welcome.
DOI and this re-union will get this fine young man back where he belongs. Sit back watch and enjoy!
Love Debbie xxxxxxxxxxx

I have been wondering about this "band" Gareth has mentioned for a while and this is not what I was expecting, I am actually very excited and can't wait to see them perform. I feel a little uneasy about the fact Gareth will not be Gareth Gates but a member of "5th Story" but I am sure if Gareth has mastered this band it will be something special. I think its sad people are saying "Don't Do It Gareth" they should be saying "Go For It Gareth!" Please everyone believe in him and support him we all know how amazing he is so have faith. I cannot comment on the Tv show as I haven;t seen it Is this band just a temporary thing? LOVE JUNE x

Hello June From my understanding of this I think ITV has mastered the band I don't think Gareth or any of the others did either. It sounds like they were all asked to form this 5th Story and they agreed. I doubt it will go on afterwards unless its a massive success which who knows it night be. But that might be an issue if one or all of the band want to persue solo succeess in their own right.
I understand Gareth is making a new album for future release so it doesn't sound like he wants to be tied to a band for any length of time. Otherwise if he is that album isn't going to happen any time soon as his commitments would be to the band until he got leave of absence or it took a break or ceased altogether. That could all take a long time.
Be interesting to see how it works out.
Love H xx

Hi H Sorry I misread it. I haven't seen this programme so I have no idea what its about. Gareth mentioned previously he was forming a band and releasing new music as a band not as Gareth Gates. I thought this was the new band. I am confused ... Is this band "5th Avenue" just for this show? Love June x

Hi folks
I don't think any of us know what the group is all about or if its meant to be a long term thing. I just assumed that it would not be something that would go on a long time as Gareth is a solo artist and he has never hinted that he wanted to be anything else. I Like H just read it as though ITV had decided to form a super group to fit in with the theme of the show and all that it stands for.
I also don't think its very beneficial to enter the show to raise you own profile but then end up having to share it with 4 others. Should the group be a success then how do you define what is making it tick? The Music? The people or persons within it?
I am not very clear what this is supposed to do for any of them really if they have to share it within 5th Story unless its just purely to get the artists "out There" as they are and when the group has gone its distance as far as ITV want to take it then the public know, appreciate and understand the members better when they are on their own again?
If ITV formed this group and I believe they have as they only came together as individuals through it, then ITV will own this group for the time that they are under contract with the programme.
There will also be a way to pull any artist out if things aren't going the way they are supposed too or they or their management are not happy with everything.
Just have to wait and see what comes out of it for Gareth, but if this group does catch on for some reason I agree with my man then there is going to be no new stuff from Gareth as a solo artist for a long time.
Luv Debbie xxxxxx

As you all know, Carol, who is away right now, usually posts all the google alerts, and I tweet them, but we are very picky about what we post as this site was set up to celebrate Gareth, not to tear him to pieces for whatever decisons Gareth and Ali have made. We trust their judgement and we believe in him. Yes even I believe in him, and I am not biased. All the press reports I have received as google alerts are negative, so I am not posting them. After Gareth appeared on DOI in 2008, a lot of doors opened for him, this time is more challenging for him, but I know without even asking that you lovely ladies, and many other fans will vote to keep him in as long as possible. TV coverage good or bad is a way of raising your profile in the public eye, so we also have THE BIG REUNION, people will hear Gareth singing, and remember him, some people who don't go to Musical theatre shows will have forgotten him. Let the critics say what they like, Gareth has to be applauded for taking a risk, he is not a one trip pony, he is versatile, and will always be in great demand for Musical theatre if all else fails, but I don't think it will. his last documentary pulled in 4 million viewers, and this one will command more. I am looking into this from the outside, don't worry ladies, Gareth and Ali know what they are doing. love H xx

I READ THIS THE OTHER DAY SOMEWHERE AND JUST FOUND IT IN ANOTHER ARTICLE ABOUT THE REUNION ... INTERESTING! it;s now clear from the rest of the article that 5th Story is a made up boy band or man band for the show ... not sure why though but if The Big Reunion is a way for Gareth to get his new music out there I say GO FOR IT GARETH AND GOOD LUCK!

Bradford star Gareth Gates makes return to his pop roots 8:00am Saturday 28th December 2013 in News 2794024.jpg?type=articlePortrait Singing star Gareth Gates is joining a new ‘supergroup’ Gareth Gates will be returning to his pop roots in 2014 for TV’s The Big Reunion. The Bradford singer, who shot to fame as the runner-up on Pop Idol in 2002, will be one fifth of a new ‘supergroup’ comprised largely of former members of nineties boy bands. Called 5th Story, the group will appear on the new series of ITV2 show The Big Reunion. The first series brought back acts such as Atomic Kitten, B*Witched and 5ive for an arena tour, and the follow-up will reunite the likes of Eternal, A1 and Damage. In 5th Story, Gareth will team up with Adam Rickitt, who played a teenage Nick Tilsley in Coronation Street before carving a pop career; Dane Bowers from Another Level; solo singer Anthony Kavana and Kenzie from urban pop combo Blazin’ Squad. Originally from East Bowling, Gareth went to Dixons City Academy and was a choirboy at Bradford Cathedral. After Pop Idol, in which he lost out in the final to Will Young, he enjoyed a successful pop career; going on to sell more than three million singles in the UK. Over recent years Gareth has moved into musical theatre, starring in such shows as Les Miserables, Legally Blonde, Momentous Musicals and a concert version of Boogie Nights which came to St George’s Hall in Bradford this year. He played an acoustic set at Bingley Arts Centre in the summer, and appeared at Bradford venue Skybar. Gareth, who runs Bradford performing arts school the Gates&Wilkes Academy with musical theatre star Jonathan Wilkes, will be appearing on Dancing On Ice’s all-star series in January.
