ON Thursday we travelled in the afternoon from our holiday home in Suffolk to Nottingham. I was very excited, as I was going with Ann, and our men were going off together to have a meal whilst we were in the show. I thought it would be nice to have some girly time. We are both very lucky that our men support us with Gareth, but as we were planning to hang around and see if we could see him as he went in, knowing that it was just us was good.
We had brought Leo with us, it was too many hours to leave him, so they were planning to take him for a walk by the river, and then drive slightly out of town to eat. We knew if leo had a walk he would sleep quite happily in the car afterwards.
There was a nip in the air, I only had a cardigan on, as it has been very warm when we left home. We saw the warm up man Andy arrive, he had Robin Cousins with him, then much later Ray. I went up and shook hands with him, saying well done for winning. Then he asked if we were coming to the show, and I said " Of course."
A lady outside told us Gareth had arrived about 4pm, so we waited in hopes he might come out, and then in the end we went round 45 mins before the show, thinking we had lots of time. But there were queues everywhere waiting to go in, so we took our place, and eventually got to our seats. Ann had booked the seats, and she did so well, it was the end of the rink where the skaters performed from, and we were row C , so I had a great view of them.
I don't want to give any details of the show and spoil anyone's surprise, but like Mo, I want to comment just how good Gareth is now. His routine just blew me away, and Nicky gave him a 9! Gareth was so thrilled with that, he commented. The judges were very fair with their scoring, and there was no rude or nasty comments, and that was because Jason Gardiner wasn't there. It seemed to me that without his continual bitchiness, Gareth has blossomed even more, and his confidence on the ice was a joy to watch.
Afterwards we went round to see if Gareth was coming out. It was a huge crowd, and we were at the back, as it takes ages to exit the arena. After a while Kyran, Beth, Hayley, Bonnie, and some of the professional skaters came out and posed for pics and signed programmes.
Gareth and Ray did not, for whatever reason, and they all had to get on a coach and go. I am not complaining, I know Gareth always gives his time when he can, but on this occasion it wasn't to be. We said goodbye to lovely Ann and Peter after waiting for over an hour, and then did the long drive back. I am so thrilled that I was able to go and see such a fabulous show, and I want to thank Ann for getting the tickets, you did a great job! Also thanks to Keith for supporting me as always, and likewise Peter, our men are truly great!
