Gareth Gates planning to hit Glasgow nightspot The Garage during solo tour
By Gillian Harvey
Gareth Gates will be debuting some of his new music on his solo tour, and will be joining the band to play the guitar and piano
Gareth Gates is planning to hit one of his favourite nightspots, The Garage, when the singer comes up north to Glasgow on tour this summer.
The star, famous for his hits which include Anyone of Us, is coming to Glasgow on June 22, as part of a five-date solo tour round the UK, and after he’s entertained the crowds on the stage of the O2 ABC, locals might just find him bopping along to the cheesy hits in G2 or the main hall in the famous student club.
“I’ve had many a night in Glasgow but when I was up recently I visited my favourite club in Glasgow, the Garage.
“It’s just very real. I’m from Bradford and I like the Garage because it’s just real and not too pretentious,” Gareth explained.
Gareth’s solo tour will see the Dancing on Ice and Big Reunion star return to his roots as a solo artist, performing some of his biggest and most popular such as Spirit in the Sky, as well as debuting some brand new tracks.
“It’s a mixture of some of my hits, and then album tracks from over the years, and some brand new material too actually.
“I’ve been writing over the past year and we’ll include some of those.
“The new music isn’t too far away from my earlier stuff, but I’m older and I’ve got a more mature sound now,” Gareth said.
Fans can also expect the talented singer to join the band live on stage, as he shows off his musical kills.
“I have played the piano and the guitar ever since I was young. I was never really allowed to [show it off] when I was a younger artist so it didn’t really fit with the style of music I was doing, but now I’m a little older and making more decisions myself.
“And I thought it would be nice to play and give people something different.”
Gareth added: “I’m very lucky, I’ve got some great fans, very loyal fans who follow me everywhere. I haven’t stopped working for the last 12 years, and they’re still there at all my gigs.”
Gareth comes to Glasgow’s O2 ABC on Sunday June 22, before moving to Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham and Islington.
