I was delighted that Gareth was appearing at Canterbury, it's so near to us, and like him, I think it's a wonderful venue. In fact it is my favourite of all.
We met up with Sue, Valerie and Malcolm for a bite to eat before the show. Malcolm decided he also wanted to come, and managed to get a ticket in row B. When we got to the theatre we saw Ann and Peter, I had not heard them ringing my phone whilst we were in the pub. Ann looked lovely in a black and white dress and high heels.
We were in the front row, and when Gareth came out he saw us all. I looked around before the show started, the theatre was full upstairs and down, I know Gareth is well supported with fans in Kent, but there were also some who had travelled from Essex. He got huge support and cheers when he opened the show.
Michael Courtney is full of fun, but he also has an incredible voice, he had also chosen 3 women with great voices too, the one who stood out for me was Kerry O'Dowd, her personality shone through, particularly when she was sparring with Michael in one of the songs. Her voice is very powerful and moving, and she left quite an impression on me.
Gareth looked absolutely dapper in his suit, his voice has all the power and richness I remember before, no sign of huskiness, and once again I was transported by his own special interpretation of some beautiful songs. I loved his cheeky and posh cockney accent in one scene. I am not naming any of the songs, because I don't want to spoil it for those who are yet to go, but what I will say is there is something for everyone.
We spoke to the lady selling programmes and cds, who was in fact Michael's wife, and she said there had been standing ovations everywhere, and Canterbury proved to be no exception. The programmes were £5 and cd was £10. Gareth's hit album was also on sale.
Afterwards we went to the stage door, and I met my facebook friend Rachel Cheeseman. After a while were told that Gareth had gone because of unforeseen circumstances. Yesterday I sent Gareth a tweet because I wanted to let him know how great his voice was again, and bless him, not only did he retweet it, he also replied apologising for not being at the stage door, and saying see you next time. He had obviously realised we would all be waiting for him, bless him. He is so caring, and this is why we all love him. How many other singers would be so considerate towards their fans I wonder?
Then we all said goodbye, and parted, and what a fantastic evening we had spent together! I hope everyone gets to see this amazing show!
My blog will follow later.
