What a beautiful sunny day it was yesterday. I was doing a book signing all day at Ipswich, so Keith picked me up after that and we drove to Clacton. We found a nice local cafe to have a meal, very inexpensive too, before we went into the show. The Princes Theatre is a Victorian building with lots of character, spacious, and the stage is back some way from the first few rows of the stalls.
We took our seats, and I was pleased to see how full it was. Excited children, parents and grand parents all waiting with eager anticipation. We were seated to the left in the first row, but had a great view of the stage. Usually it's quite a while before Gareth makes his entrance in a panto, but this time it was only a few minutes. As usual he got a rousing cheer when he appeared dressed in his lincoln green. I did notice he has lost weight, and I know he's been working out at the gym, but I thought he was a bit too thin in those green tights, bless him. He needs some of Wendy's roast dinners no doubt!
The whole production is very funny. Will Scarlett is hilarious, I have always liked Graham Cole, and he made a wonderful bullying and powerful Sheriff of Nottingham. Maid Marian is cute, but the lady that stood out for me was Fairy Cher. She had such a personality. When I write my blog I will be using all the names of the actors.
Gareth was great, he sang 3 songs I think it was, he was so funny, he is a great comic actor, and looked to be thoroughly enjoying the whole thing. In fact all of them struggled to contain their mirth at times, I love to see that in a panto, and we left the theatre feeling we had been thoroughly entertained.
There were a few people waiting at the stage door, and Gareth was out very quickly. He came over to me and I got a hug, and then a quick picture. It has been almost a year since I last saw him, so I said how lovely it was, and he asked me how I was. I said I was fine, but didn't want to keep him any longer, and I am glad we didn't , as today he said he has a cold, bless him. When we left he was signing for other fans, but we had an hours drive back to Suffolk, and I was so happy that I had managed to see him. It was a great birthday treat seeing Gareth, and I can't wait for the next opportunity. I hope my photo posts, there is something funny with photobucket tonight.
