I went to Skegness with my friend who I think is becoming more and more smitten with Gareth
I met her at Shipley station and we caught a train to Leeds and then got the 11.05 to Skegness. We arrived in Skegness at 2pm and it was Skegness Carnival the streets were packed and a lot of the roads were closed. We were in walking distance of our B&B so it wasn’t a problem. We got booked in and then went to find the theatre which was only a short walk across the green from our B&B. It was such a lovely day we headed down to the sea front and later met up with Carol & Keith, they had driven up and had trouble getting into Skegness with all the roads closed for the carnival. We arranged to meet them at the theatre about4pm by which time the carnival had finished and the roads were open again. We headed back to the B&B got changed and then went out for something to eat. We then went to meet Ann & Pete at the Theatre before the show.
I’ll let Carol describe the theatre as she is a lot better at it than me. There was a wide range of people there of all ages.
There was a sign that said recording was strictly prohibited it said no filming or recording audio I thought this might just be for shows rather than gigs but early on someone near me was filming on their phone and was told she could take photos but not film
I was surprised but delighted when at 7.30 Gareth looking very handsome wearing tight Grey Jeans White Shirt, thin Black Tie and a Jacket came on with Pete and a guy on the keyboards. Gareth sang “Close Every Door, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, Pictures Of The Other Side (fantastic to hear Gareth sing that again) Acoustic Anyone of Us & Angel On My Shoulder”. He sounded and looked amazing Gareth then said they would be back on later with the full band and would do some Rock Classics and some of his songs and have a bit of a party
Then the support Act came on his name was Nik Lowe he played the guitar and sang some of his own songs and a few covers. There was then a 20 minute break.
At about 9pm Gareth came back on with his band and they were ANAZING a few songs in and off cam the Jacket to the delight of the crowd people were up on there feet the atmosphere was electric, I have seen Gareth at a few live gigs now and each time he just gets better and better. I can’t remember the order but Gareth sang:
Sweet Child Of Mine- Valerie – Summer Of 69 – Livin’ On A Prayer – Don’t Stop Me Now – Mr Brightside – Your Sex Is On Fire – (could of been more...)
Also SUSPICIOUS MINDS – UPBEAT SUNSHINE, CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S OVER and ended of course SPIRIT IN THE SKY , when he sang SITS Gareth came down off the stage and a surge of people from the back came down the aisle to the front, the front row was now the 4/6th row  after SITS they went off and the lights came on so we thought that was it but everyone was shouting for more and they came back on Gareth said one more!
Gareth said Ann had earlier asked him to sing a song , which was Mustang Sally, more people cam to the front and loads of people had cameras out filming it was the last song,(we had’nothing to lose) I managed to filmed most of it I was in second row in the middle and as the people in front of me didn’t stand I had had a clear view for the whole evening but now I had several people in front of me but still managed to capture just a little of the magic .
Sadly Gareth didn’t sing any of his new music but did give us an Unforgettable, Amazing evening.
After the show we went to see Gareth at the stage door my friend said her daughter wanted her to get a photo with Gareth (whatever) I think she wanted one unfortunately her picture on my camera was very dark mine didn’t come out at all, she had taken one of me with Gareth on her camera and that did. There were loads of people waiting to see him and he saw everyone
Carol, Keith, Ann, Pete Myself and my friend then went for a drink we were on such a high and had a great time. It was lovely to see you guys again
I think my friend may be coming to a few more gigs in the future
I hope Gareth does more of these gigs, it was lovely to have the two parts of different music and hopefully we will soon get to hear some of his own amazing new music.
Mustang Sally
