On Sunday we went to Woking for the charity concert. It was lovely to meet up with Ann and Peter, not seen them properly since Skegness last August, and Vera and Mick, bless them. Poor Robbie couldn't come cos he was n't well.
We had fish and chips at Wetherspoons before the show, it was very nice, and the price is good too.
Bobby Davro was hosting the Gala, and it became obvious to me that he was a little worse for wear when he came on. ( However I won't be putting that in my blog) He was very funny though, and also very cheeky, poor Ann and Vera both got dragged into the spotlight by him, and he was cheeky to them, but they took it all in good fun. He gave Ann a kiss on the cheek after.
I will mention about the other acts on the show in my blog later, for now will go straight to Gareth. He was billed as the star, as well he should be, so we waited patiently through all the acts, they were saving the best til last. When he came on, he looked absolutely amazing in a chocolate brown suit, and his hair looked wonderful too. So incredibly handsome, and Bobby was right when he introduced him as a superstar.
He saw us all and waved, bless him, then he burst into DON'T STOP ME NOW, then a sombre but beautiful few minutes whilst he sang HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW, back to party moood again, CAUGHT IN A TRAP and then SPIRIT IN THE SKY . He invited us to get up and dance so we did, the place with alive with party spirit and happiness that Gareth so easily inspires.
Bobby then came back on the stage, still very inebriated, and commented how good Gareth was on Pop Idol in 2001, and look what he's grown into now, a superstar talent, and how proud he was to have him as the star act. Gareth took it all very well, then Bobby asked if he could sing UM with him. Gareth generously said Yes, and Bobby managed to murder it whilst Gareth smiled politely, then cos I was so near, I heard him whisper to Bobby, " Look whose pd." Don't think Bobby even heard him.
I have to say earlier when they showed the scenes of the hospice staff, and the work they do, I was in tears. Apparently the hospice looked after Bobby's mum until she died, so it has a special place in his heart, and I do admire the efforts they went to to raise the money. It was a great show.
We waited at the stage door with Sharon, (Tell you about her in my blog later) and her daughter, but in the end we were told to go into the main entrance. Gareth came straight over when he saw us, hugged everyone, thanked us for coming. He signed my programme. I told him we wanted more of him, and he grinned, then said we were coming to Essex soon. " Oh good" he said to that. My first pic with him didn't come out, so Keith asked him to pose with me again. He said " Certainly" bless him, so Ann and Peter took a pic for me. Keith's camera has stopped working, he will get a new one.
We didn't get home until 2 am, but it was so worth it, sorry this report is so quick, I am busy with other blogs and things at the moment as well as book promotion.
I will add my blog as soon as I get it published, and also any pics I might have..
