It was wonderful to have Gareth perform in Bradford again and it was extra special as this time he would be singing his new music. I went to Bingley with my sister Jean, my friend Karen and her two daughters Katherine & Sara, who first saw Gareth at Boogie Nights in Bradford and they enjoyed it so much asked if they could come and see Gareth with us at Bingley. We had front row seats but as they booked a lot later they were sat a bit further back.
First on was two local lads who played guitar and sang they were really good and great fun they kept mentioning Gareth throughout their set, they would say something about their next song and then say you don’t care do you, you just want Gareth
Next were the students from gatesacademy the youngest was six and the eldest nineteen, first was the dancing they were great and then the singing, I was really impressed with two girls that sang a duet of “For Good” and found out afterwards that one of the girls was Gareth’s sister Jessica. After they had finished Wendy came on and spoke about the academy and said Gareth had started it to give something back to Bradford and she thanked the teachers who coached the students. Wendy also mentioned Gareth would be doing a signing afterwards in the foyer, which was a pleasant surprise.
Then it was time for Gareth’s Set I can’t tell you how excited I felt it is always magical to see Gareth perform but this time was extra special because I had longed for this moment ... and now I was going to hear Gareth’s sing some new music.
He started with Heaven which was beautiful followed by Sweet Child of Mine which Gareth always sings brilliantly, Pete announced the next song which was one of their new songs called “Stay” you will of all heard this song by now, and I have played it over and over again, but hearing it for the first time and watching Gareth sing it was very emotional. Gareth then sang Suspicious, Anyone of Us & More Than Words, Gareth often came to the front of the stage it was magical for me as I could see his beautiful face when he sang, he asked people to sing and touching their hands. I love the excitement when Gareth interacts with the crowd. Throughout the evening Gareth praised Pete saying he was a fantastic guitarist and songwriter and at one point said how can someone who is a fantastic guitarist/songwriter have hair like that.
Once again Pete introduced their next song they had written called “Free” when Gareth sang this I choked up, it was a beautiful performance and a very emotional song.
Gareth then sang Unchained Melody which was s lovely as I haven’t heard him sing it in such a long time. Then Missy came on stage bless her Gareth asked her to say Hello to everyone but she was too shy, then Mia came on stage and together they said hello Bingley or something like that, they were both adorable. Gareth’s next song was Angel On My Shoulder and said this one is for my mum a little way into the song Wendy came on and Gareth gave her a hug and then she sang a line or so with him he then hugged her again and then said RIGHT NOW GET OFF! It was so funny. Pete then announced the third and final new song “Hold On Tight” he said that isn’t what I have written down, and then they said listen to it and tell us what you think the title is afterwards. This song was beautiful and as with all of them as well as the heart wrenching lyrics what really stood out for me was Gareth’s amazing voice it was so beautiful.
Then Gareth wanted to Party and up went the Tempo with Summer of 69, Your Sex is on Fire, Livin On A Prayer & of course no gig would be complete without Spirit In The Sky. Gareth and Pete then thanked everyone and left the stage but the crowd wanted more and with screams for Gareth and the whole place going crazy they returned and gave u one last song which was “Brown Eyed Girl” then all too soon it was over.
We made our way into the foyer where people queued for personalised signed posters which were £5, the money was for Gareth’s charity. After a short while it was my turn Gareth greeted me with a hug and I had a photo and he signed a poster for me. Katherine and Sara also had a signed Poster and a photo with Gareth. It was an amazing evening and seeing Gareth afterwards was the perfect end.
I have taken some videos; I have the new songs, and some short clips of all of the others but I haven’t yet checked them to see how I did. I am still converting the files and I need to upload them to You Tube, I shall get them up as soon as I can.
