Yesterday I went to see Gareth at Blackpool Gay Pride with my sister Jean. We left my house just before 7.30am as we were catching the 8.10 from Bradford Interchange we wanted to get to the station early as we had to get our tickets. The guy at the ticket office said there were NO trains to Blackpool because someone had stolen the copper cables between Halifax and Hebden Bridge, I asked if I could take a train to Halifax and if there would there be a replacement bus and he said NO there were no trains to Halifax either. I asked if I could get to Blackpool on another route and he said I could catch a train from Bradford Forster Sq to Leeds, change for Manchester Piccadilly then change there for Preston and then at Preston change for Blackpool but he said instead of £22 it would cost £36. Well I had been awake half the night, up since 5.30 and on my way to see Gareth so I i wasn't turning back. We walked to the other station in Bradford and took a train to Leeds where we were told there was a train to Blackpool but we would have to change at Halifax where there was a bus replace service to Blackburn. This train took us back to Bradford Interchange (where we had started nearly two hours earlier) and onto Halifax. We them boarded the coach to Blackburn but when we arrived at Blackburn there was NO train to Blackpool it had been cancelled there were loads of people going crazy  no one at the station knew what was going on, eventually we were told there was a train to Blackpool South (We needed Blackpool North ) but it was near enough in about 45 minutes, when the train arrived it was already packed and loads waiting to get on , I don’t know if everyone managed to get on but we did. We arrived at Blackpool South about 1.30pn and took a taxi to the Winter Gardens as we had no idea where it was.
When we arrived at the Pavilion it was really hot inside and I don’t know who was on stage but the noise was deafening it wasn’t too packed so we went out to get a cup of tea . I didn’t want to be too late in as I wanted to be close to the stage so about 2.30 we went in to see what it was like and Andrea spotted us and came over, she was at the front with her daughter so we joined them, there were a lot of people but not packed at the front. There was a young man on at the time who was really good great fun and from then on all the acts we saw were good some went on a bit but we had a good time.
It was just after 4.30 the place was packed ... everyone had moved forward ... it was the moment we had been waiting for ... Gareth came on looking absolutely gorgeous and he was fabulous he sang 5 songs, he started with “Don’t Stop Me Now and then Anyone Of Us, Suspicious Minds and Livin On A Prayer, the crowd loved him Gareth lent over the stage and touched people’s hands he was just amazing on stage and then he jumped off the stage and came along the front row and I squeezed his hand. All too soon it was all over and Gareth left the stage, the crowd went crazy, he came back and sang Spirit In The Sky for an encore ... and that was it ...
Andrea and her daughter took off to the side of the stage so we followed them hoping we may get to see Gareth, they went out of the theatre and I had no idea where they were going, she then told me she had a guest pass (Lucky girl? ) when we got to where she could go in to meet Gareth there were two really nice guys I was asked if I had a pass ... I said NO can I get one, they said NO I said can you get me one they said NO, I said PLEASE can I just say hello to Gareth ... Andrea had gone in as she had her pass and said she would ask Gareth to come out and see me afterwards bless her. Then one of the guys came to me and told us to sit on these chairs just inside the door and said you can see Gareth ... I said THANK YOU and he looked at me and said “WELL I HAVE A HEART” while we were waiting for Gareth a group of people arrived that I think were press and sat across the room, Andrea and her daughter were waiting at the other side of the room and Andrea came over and chatted for a while.
It didn’t seem too long and Gareth appeared with a beautiful smile and saw me said lovely to see you and gave me a hug, we chatted for a couple of minutes and then I asked the guy if he could take a photo for me and he did but then said could he take another for some reason, Gareth said sure and I didn’t mind having to hold on to Gareth for a little while longer. it was wonderful to see him and have a little chat as always it made a special day have a perfect ending. After seeing Gareth we went for a quick drink with Andrea and her daughter and then headed home, thankfully we were able to get the straight through train to Bradford with no problems we arrived back in Bradford at 8.30pm exhausted but very happy thanks to Andrea and a very special young man.
